His Excellency, the President of Kenya, Hon. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, awarded a charter to the Lukenya University, at Kakamega State lodge on 2nd August 2022 effectively making it the First University in Makueni county  to be fully established. The event was witnessed by the Founder, Chancellor, Vice -chancellor, Governing council members and BOT members .

The University journey begun in 2012 (9 -years ago) when the family of the Late Hon. Justice Kasanga Mulwa decided to set up a university in Mtito andei, Kibwezi East on a private land that had been purchased to farm cotton. Construction begun in 2013 after Which the the University was finally accredited in 2015 November to offer programmes under L.I.A and proceeded to graduate its first cohort in 2019 November.

The University embraces a green Philosophy which fosters the use of innovative technologies to enhance global food Security, Energy, and Sustainability, The flagship programmes are in Dryland Agriculture and Ecology. The University currently offers various programmes and is currently looking to strengthen its research arm through various collaborations. We are also pursuing to offer the ODEL system of learning to reach more potential leaners .

The Co-founder, Mrs. Martha Kasanga Mulwa, expressed great Joy on this momentous event, noting that this was a dream come true and will be a treasure for the people of Makueni after close to 10 years in the development of the facilities and programmes. The Founding Chancellor Mr. Harris Mule impressed how we are proud to be firmly established among the institutions of higher Education in this great continent and we now move steadfastly to achieve our goals.
