Global stakeholders to convene at Mtito Andei Campus to advance climate-resilient solutions for dryland food systems

Lukenya University will host the 3rd Dryland Agriculture and Food Systems in the Face of Climate Change Conference on 17–18 June 2026 at the Mtito Andei Campus. The conference will bring together policymakers, researchers, development partners, private sector leaders, and community stakeholders to explore practical solutions for strengthening dryland food systems and building climate resilience.

Held under the theme “Transforming Dryland Food Systems for Climate Resilience, Nutrition & Inclusive Growth,” the conference aims to address pressing climate challenges affecting dryland regions while highlighting innovative approaches that can improve food security, livelihoods, and sustainable development.

Dryland areas play a critical role in Africa’s agricultural landscape, with Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) covering nearly 80% of the country. These regions are increasingly experiencing climate-related challenges such as prolonged droughts, declining crop yields, water scarcity, and food insecurity. The conference will provide a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and develop scalable solutions that support resilient food systems.

The event will feature research presentations, panel discussions, policy dialogues, and innovation showcases, bringing together participants from across the food system including farmers, pastoralists, youth innovators, researchers, government representatives, and regional organizations.

In the lead-up to the conference, Lukenya University will also host several pre-event activities including the “10 Million Trees Run” Marathon, a Youth and Women in Drylands Innovation Challenge, and a Diplomatic and Development Partner Dialogue aimed at shaping regional investment and policy priorities.
